Autumn depression is a psycho-emotional state that is characterized by instability of mood, more often in a negative direction, difficulties of the thought process, and even motor retardation.

When a person falls into autumn depression, he restrains his needs and loses feeling for satisfaction.

What is the cause of depression during the otherwise romantic and warm season?

In fact, the reasons can be very different. Reducing the length of the day and the gray skies seem to be enough for us to fall into a gloomy mood, less motivation at work and look apathetically in all directions.

There is also a physiological explanation for the phenomenon. The decrease in solar activity leads to increased formation of the hormone melanin in the human body - it becomes a factor in the development of depressive states. Its formation intensifies at night and in the dark hours of the day, and under exposure to sunlight reduces its amount. Therefore, the few bright hours in autumn cause depression.

Another factor that leads to the development of autumn malaise is psychological. Autumn in our mind is connected with the thought “Current year is over”. A mass rethinking of what happened during the year and what is happening begins. Findings are not always positive. The feeling of unrealization of the set tasks, accompanied by feelings of dissatisfaction and irreversibility, are a prerequisite for negative change in attitude to life. Autumn depression can also strike you due to a social factor. For example a lot of stress on the workplace, increased demands of others to you, violation of the labor process and rest, poor sleep, etc.

So let us show you couple essential oils that can help you fight autumn depression:

  1. Organic Lavender essential oil

Highest quality essential oil of lavender has very positive properties on the psyche, has a calming effect on the nervous system, protects the nerves from being overly stimulated, soothes excessive emotions and increases well-being and quality of life.

In aromatherapy, essential oil of lavender is used especially for insomnia and restlessness. Its muscle-relaxing and anti-hypertensive effects are often used to soothe nervousness and anxiety. Pure lavender oil is also a valuable help with headaches caused by anxiety and similar circumstances.

  1. Organic Clary Sage essential oil

Aromatherapy is linked with relaxation and stress-relief in many of our minds, even before we become familiar with essential oils. Certain oils are more effective than others, and Clary Sage stands out. In fact, when a group of essential oils were tested for antidepressant abilities in a study, Clary Sage showed that is one of the best, indicating it as a potential stand-alone treatment thanks to its dopamine regulation.

  1. Organic Chamomile essential oil

Chamomile is used to lower levels of anxiety and is a natural antihistamine. This means that similar to a medication like benadryl, chamomile can lower inflammation levels in the body. Inflammation has a direct link to depression, making this a great essential oil option for a nighttime routine. Chamomile is a popular tea, but can be extracted as an oil and inhaled.

Here are the most common methods for scent inhalation:

  • Inhale the scent directly from the oil’s bottle or inhaler tube.
  • Dab a few drops of the essential oil onto a cotton ball and inhale directly.
  • Add several drops of the oil to a diffuser and inhale indirectly.
  • Create an aromatherapy bath by adding several drops of essential oil diluted with honey, milk, or a carrier oil to your bathwater.
  • Enjoy an aromatherapy massage by adding a few drops of the essential oil to your favorite massage oil.

Try our uplifting mood essential oil diffuser blends:

  • Melissa 3 drops – Lavender 2 drops – Clary Sage 4 drops
  • Lavender 3 drops – Hyssop 2 drops – Basil 1 drop
  • Oregano 1 drop – Lavender 2 drops – Helichrysum 2 drops

If you’re experiencing depression, talk to your doctor or health specialist about your symptoms. They can work with you to develop the best treatment plan for you. Once your treatment plan has been set, do your best to follow it. Missing appointments or medications may cause your symptoms to return or cause symptoms similar to withdrawal.

Always discuss with your doctor or aromatherapy expert to determine the best possible essential oils to your current treatment!
