Helichrysum - a herb like a phoenix from the ashes

Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) is a perennial plant from the daisy family (Asteraceae) and is also known as curry herb, Italian strawflower, Immortella or Immortelle. The meaning of the Latin name comes from two Greek words: ιλιος (Helios) = sun and χρυσός (Chrysos) = gold, because of its bouquets of small yellow flowers wrapped in gold-colored shells. The helichrysum herb is compared to the phoenix rising from the ashes, because even when harvested and dried, it can regain its vital activity even after 365 days if it is submerged in water or planted.

With its beautiful sunny yellow spherical inflorescences and its wonderful aroma, the "golden flower" gives a bright, sparkling, penetrating fresh and sunny mood and warmth even on the coldest winter days. The healing power of helichrysum has a wonderful effect on body and soul, it contains the secret of youth and longevity.

The beautiful flowers were brought to the gods in ancient Greece and used as a flavor and spice in various culinary recipes from the Mediterranean region in medieval Europe.

According to folk medicine, the herb can cure all kinds of diseases and for this reason magical properties are attributed to it. Helichrysum italicum is good for the liver and gallbladder - the decoction and infusion of Immortella flowers is used for bile, as a diuretic and laxative. It is used to treat stomach diseases such as colitis and gastritis and it helps with gynecological diseases and problems with urination, sciatica, gout, rheumatism and neuralgia.
